Surgical Services

Surgical Services

Our staff veterinarians are experienced in a wide variety of surgical procedures. Such procedures as spays and neuters are done very routinely. We also perform a number of more advanced procedures as well. Soft tissue surgeries such as abdominal exploratories, spleen removals, removal of bladder stones, intestinal procedures, diaphragmatic hernias, and foreign body retrievals are performed regularly. While we are not specialists, we do routinely perform a number of procedures that are often referred to surgical specialists. They include total ear canal ablations, fracture repairs, repair of luxating patellae, and ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments. For all our surgeries, our licensed technicians maintain close attention to anesthetic monitoring using EKG machines and blood oxygen monitors. We also believe in assertive pain control with injectable, oral, epidural and topical pain medications.

We routinely require our surgical patients to have their food and water withheld after midnight the night before surgery. You should receive a phone call the evening prior to your pet’s procedure to remind you to fast the patient. We will also recommend to you that we do some preoperative bloodwork and an EKG prior to anesthesia to minimize the risks of anesthesia as much as possible. In addition, you have the option to select additional steps that may benefit your pet, such as placing an intravenous catheter and electing additional post-surgical pain medications.
